You stand at the edge while people run you through

It's hard not to feel like a big queen, sitting here listening to Mirah's dramatic "Cold Cold Water" while wearing my bright red plush bathrobe and sipping coffee.

I didn't want to post pictures until it was done, but anyway, here's the work-in-progress known as the office. I've decided I'm just going to break down and get another gallon and do a third coat. I came this far, I don't need to quit before crossing the finish line and getting the results I want. And why do I totally want to buy a paint sprayer as well? Probably because I've been spending random bits of time planning a career in my head as a part-time house painter.

How is it already 10:30 and I've barely done a thing?

Ooh that's a pretty red. I always like a red wall, myself. Very Edwardian.

That looks very classy and somehow a little dangerous...

PS - listen to Rufus Wainwright's "Love Affair" if you haven't - speaking of drama queen... ;)

its aight re: feeling dramatic over Mirah's "Cold Cold Water". For whatever, bizarro reason when I hear that song I envision it has being like a theme song for an animated version of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower"

Holy geez I'm a dorkus malorkus, but at least a dorkus malorkus who will be seeing Mirah in Japan of a all places in a couple of months. haruummm

oh, i've always wanted a room that color. when m'lady gets to town, we might be moving to an apartment with a bedroom that color. it's beautiful! so rich and warm!

Good thinking on the third coat. For our red room, we did one coat and then we had to add a little water to the paint to make the one coat. All because I'm too cheap.

just and fyi for future painting endeavors

To make the red pop and coverage be minimal in terms of how many coats you use, you should use a tinted base coat. Whenever I painted red rooms, I used to use an orange undercoat. Not only does it really enrich the red and make it vibrant, but it also freaks out the homeowner when they walk into an orange room. :)

yeah, i'm so pigheaded and lazy and i generally say things like "primer? that's just painting twice!"

but in this case i DID paint twice and it still wasn't enough. live and learn, eh? thanks for the tip though!

Red is really tricky. It looks like the red Marie and I painted our room 3 years ago. We had to prime it 2 coats and paint 4 coats and it was still spotty. We changed our room color since then but I remember it not being an easy task!

six coats of paint total?!? that so doesn't make me feel better. ;)

I had to paint over a red room and found if I cross hatched the primer; one coat going up and down and the other side to side, I got lots of coverage and no spotting.

I love that red. It's like sexy bordello sucky sucky five bucky red.

it's pretty damn sexy. i think it needs to be christened.

your place looks great! i can't wait to see it in person!

i'm not down with primer either. spackling is more than enough prep for me.

:)
