Nothing like a little Mashed Out Posse to get the blood flowing on a Monday morning. I was a little tired when I work up, which confused me since I was asleep before midnight, but then I remembered that I only slept about 5-6 hours on Saturday night. Hmm.
Weekend was good. On Friday evening Melanie called to make I hadn't got injured in the train collision. My answer was "what train collision?" Apparantly there was a huge accident with 140 hurt, but I hadn't actually listened to the news that evening. But that was sweet -- and also scary that she heard about it in Vermont! On Saturday I bummed around in the morning, went down to Market Days in the afternoon and saw the Kings perform. Ran into El___, which was a little weird.
There was this weird goodbye moment, because she was leaving for over a week, and we did the whole I-went-for-a-hug-She-went-for-a-kiss awkward moment thingy. I guess I felt weird being all physcially affectionate in public, since I really don't even know her that well. But anyway, she'll be gone until next Monday. I think I now feel that having another "encounter" would be bad, because I wouldn't be THAT involved or invested, and I think it could cause some weird attachment issues. I don't want to have to have a break-up talk with someone I'm not dating. Argh. And I really don't want to make her feel bad. So I think I'm going to obviously still be friendly and whatnot, but play it sort of cool too.
Anyway, I stood around in the hot fcking sun forever and Mi___ never showed, so I went to the apartment and attempted to call him, no answer, finally tracked down his boyfriend, then Di__ and Sh___ showed up, and we FINALLY found the folks we were trying to meet (I was very annoyed with them), and we were starving, but they were like "oh, we already ate a burrito" (probably while I was sitting around waiting for them) so we went to dinner but agreed to meet at The Closet at 8 pm. We sat there until 9 pm. Punks never showed. So basically Di__, Sh___, and I hung out and got drunk on our own and had a perfectly pleasant time, including a sleepover at the new place. The next morning we watched the Brady Bunch Movie, then I went home and showered and went to Li___'s to do a little work on one of performance pieces (I'm redoing the sound track). Then I went BACK to Halsted Days to work the booth and hung out with Alex and Kamika. They are super cute, and I tried not to get nauseous. Ha ha, just kidding, bro. Seriously, Alex, it was awesome seeing you and we need to see each other more often!! And thanks again for Milton's number. Tee-hee. So yeah, I'll probably give her a call, and then if she's lucky I'll wine and dine her and show her how boys are supposed to act on dates....it should be fun.
So the big boss is back today, which I'm very happy about, actually. She's good people, and makes my everyday work more interesting, and not just because she's my supervisor.....
Oh, one other funny story. At Market Days i was working the booth with this woman who was volunteering for the first time, and I swear on Chanel, I ended up coming out as ES within the first 10 minutes and it was SO not even my own fault. She mentioned her gf and we talked about that, but then I decided not to play the game of "oh, you have gf? let me talk about mine now so we can share...." because, well, I just had nothing that wasn't nonsequiter to say about Melanie. Then a minute later, this guy walked by who stared at me long and hard, and he was someone who I worked with at Borders 3 years ago, and I was panicky that he would recognize me and out my my birth name or something, but then I realized that there's no way he'd recognize me because I look way different anyway, and not just because of my goatee. So I realized he was checking me out and I was like "ewwww!" cause this guy was skanky, but not in a good way. Not a comment on looks -- a comment on personality. So anyway, the volunteer witnessed the interaction, and then I didn't want her to think I was being homophobic or something (wha?) so I was like, oh I don't mind being checked out AT ALL, I just don't want HIM checking me out. She laughed. There was a pause, then she said "so I take it you're not seeing anyone". Wha? You can't like being checked out by people, even if you are in a monogamous relationship? Anyway, i said, no actually I have a primary partner. Pause. Then I was thinking 'hell, now I look like a scheming player who's dating a cuckold', so I said "but we're in a nonmonogamous relationship". I sorta left it at that, but then she brought it up a couple minutes later...so I recommeded that she read Ethical Slut....
I becoming such a proselytizer!! I told Roi____ about this, and she was cracking up, and we decided that I should lead a discussion group on the book that would include her, Di___ and Sh___, Li___, Damon, and maybe others.... I specifcally told Roi that I'm not interested in giving "lessons" though on how to run your relationship -- I don't have enough experience for that at all. But we'll see.
alrighty, I should get back to work. We have dozens of bakery type products eat today, partially because of the return of our fearless leader....
And just in case anyone was wondering, approx 18 days until Melanie's return. (I say approx, since she's driving and she might return either the evening of the 24th or the 25th, depending on when camp is done with cleanup and such....)
