My favorite part is when only one half of the Congress stands up to clap. And strangely enough, all the Supreme Court justices are on the side not clapping. I wonder if they are taught that they aren't supposed to clap, to maintain the veneer of checking power.

I also liked when he threw in a reference to Coretta Scott King at the beginning and they cut to the audience and in the corner of a shot, I saw Maxine Waters, not clapping, looking down, and possibly shaking her head. And when he asked to have the PAtriot Act to be reauthorized, they cut to some people sitting down, not clapping, and reading a program. There's a program for the State of the Union? What does it say? Reception to follow.

I don't even know what to say, it's too weary and expected to be clever in my rage and political commentary. It's not fun to watch, but I can't NOT watch. I have to keep tabs on this guy. I have to pay attention. I have to pay attention.

[Blah, blah, blah.]

ETA: I had to laugh and cheer a little when he said, "last year Congress did not pass my social security reform program" and all the democrats interrupted him by standing up and applauding.

I'm trying hard not to watch it, but the hard-of-hearing nun next door is BLASTING it. I heard W's Coretta Scott King bit and wanted to cry, and not in a "touched" sort of way. So far, it's mostly wars and tax cuts.

Oooh, the sisters are booing the PATRIOT Act. And my mom just emailed me, saying "This is really distasteful." Oh, the sorry state of the union. :(

i think that the reason the supreme court justices didn't clap is that they are no doubt advised not to clap about anything, lest they appear to be partial to any particular agenda which might somehow influence future rulings.

yes, it's funny how bush lectures about the need for bipartisan cooperation, when he can't even get half of congress to clap politely for most of his speech.

but my favorite part, by far, was when the camera cut to hillary. her facial expressions were priceless.

and it looked like hillary was chewing gum at one point. i would have given a limb to see her blow a bubble and roll her eyes.

You know what's sad? I just got home and I'm actually feeling like I missed something from all these funny posts about what happened during the State of the Union address. But really, did I need to see it to know what he said? No, no I didn't. I could probably ghostwrite his speeches my own self.
