Remember me? I'm eating solid food again.

Last week was a little rough. I'm pretty sure it was actually food poisoning from something I ate Tuesday night, specifically some not-so-fresh summer sausage in my fridge, however, whenever I think of lots of other things I consumed that first day -- banana chips, wasabi peas, a mint julep -- I get a little nauseous, like my mouth starts watering in that weird way it doesn right before having to run for cover. So I'm not sure if it's just association or not. Even weirder is that my illness was actually mostly puke-free. I won't go into any other details, because really, why bother? We all know what it's like to have our digestive system wrecked and betraying us in some form or another.

I recovered from my illness right about the time that most everyone else in town was at the LCCP ball on Saturday night. I wasn't even 100% then, as mintwaster kept trying to feed me more flautas and cocktails at the bar at Heartland but I was steadfast in demurring.

The tail end of my illness happened during my in-house spiritual retreat. I promised myself I wouldn't write about it here, because at one point while sitting I realized I was constructing a story about my experience as it was unfolding and I know that's a totally expected writerly thing to do, but I didn't want to do it. So to curb it, I said I'd only write private things about everything. Of course, if you see me in person, I'll tell you about it, cause I blab that way, but even then I'm holding back a little. So let's write about more important things.

I know it's cliche to be trying to emulate sharkysmachine, but I can't help it: I'm addicted to House and I'm in love with Hugh Laurie.

For some reason, I'm all about Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 right now. I don't get it either. I mean, I don't even like them. It's kinda weird to alternate between them and Langley School Music Project and Firefall and looking at the website dedicated to Classical Gas.

Air America is going premium in their podcasts, which means I can no longer listen to Rachel Maddow for free. Premium? Paid service? Remember what that did to Salon? (It made them suck, in case you forgot.) Ok, really this is just me panicking about what to do. I listen to Rachel 4-5 times a week and Randi 1-2 times a week. It's kinda pricey to subscribe ($50 a year for ONE show, $70 a year for any/all of them). I might break down and do it anyway, otherwise I'm not sure how I'll get my fix. I downloaded Democracy Now and it's ok, but.....it's not Rachel. Anyone want to split it with me? One of us could download and then e-mail it to the other? By "anyone", I guess I'm really just talking to broqued and I should e-mail her directly.

I missed film group tonight to make up work I didn't get done last week, namely preparing curriculum for my first day of back to teaching tomorrow. I'm ready!

There is a website dedicated to "Classical Gas"! Of course, even though it has never occurred to me to google it. I was conceived to that song, which means that it invokes some really charged feelings for me. It is one of my favourite songs, but I can't help but (cringe) imagining my parents doing it every time I hear it. I heard a few years ago that Mason Williams lives here. I am pretty sure that I've seen him playing on the street at Saturday Market from time to time, but I don't have the nerve to ask for confirmation.

i find it a little disturbing but also absolutely enviable that you know what song you were conceived to!!

which makes me think, is there some Dave Clark 5 song that makes me twinge in a different way, because it's what was playing when my parents conceived me? but my utter adoration for 70s am gold makes me think it was something more contemporary.

I can't say I've fallen into the House trap, and I've been actively avoiding watching it... I only view one hospital show at a time, and currently that slot is filled by "Grey's Anatomy."

Who knew that Classical Gasoline could have a whole website dedicated to it? Ok... no. If the song was called "Classical Gasoline," we never would have heard about it... unless some Oil Company used it for its jingle.

Last, but certainly least, your comment about Air America reminds me of an article I just read suggesting that the entirety of the Internet as we know it may be about to vanish.

raybear, i heed the call. i'm totally in.

here's what i'm hoping for (in the *very* least) from air america with this ridiculous pay-for-podcasting: that they use podcasting in their ratings system. rachel maddow, before her new show aired, mentioned that they do not consider podcast subscribers when documenting internal ratings... if i'm downloading- actively pursuing that voice, and paying for it- i think it should be noted and credit given that there is this desire to listen to a specific show, especially at a time other than 6goddamam. i mean, if we're going to be monitored, it might as well be for something useful.

that is an excellent point about ratings. it makes me want to just buy her show alone, despite the package deal being offered, so they KNOW. but wait, you're right, they'll track downloads, so it's just the same.

also, they still allow free streaming of the show. so you can listen while sitting at the computer, but this doesn't help our ipods. unless you know of some way to record streams on a computer? i am sadly not that geek anymore.

i hope your first day of teaching went well! mine was good, despite a few techinical glitches. luckily, there's always tomorrow to do it again.

i miss you too. did you find the ideal writing space? because i bet we could do a good writing buddy date -- like, let ourselves chat for 15 minutes, write for 45, repeat for several hours until our brains have been juiced for all our genius onto the page, at which point we'd go sing karaoke. of course.
what are you doing next weekend??
