Today is a Soft Rock Sunday. At one point, I actually managed to oversaturate myself in the middle of a Linda Ronstadt album and had to take a break, but now I'm back. I love the phrase "soft rock" because it's pretty ridiculous.

Recently there was a week without a shower curtain and I took a lot of baths. In that time, I think I contracted swimmer's ear. I find that somewhat ridiculous too. But with the added bonus that now my ears smell like a combination of alcohol and vinegar from my homemade remedy. Delicious. Yesterday while chopping up lettuce for salad I sliced the tip of my middle finger. I am aware of knife safety techniques, but I think I spaced out because I was thinking about, um, the night before. So anyway, I've been walking around with these two minor ailments and I feel like such a big baby who's fixated on them and as if I am completely incapacitated. I can teach with a migraine, clean up after fainting and puking all over myself, climb stairs with a strained hamstring, attempt to carry heavy suitcases days after surgery, incur large bruises on my legs that I never remember the cause, and through it all act tough. But give me something minor and stingy (or god forbid, a toe-stubbing), and I'm a drama queen. Though, pain and how it works is fascinating to me.

One of my mantras lately, usually in the midst of judgment and frustration, is to "meet people where they are." I've been relatively successful, I suppose. But sometimes I wish people would stop being so far behind. Or at the very least stop waiting for someone else to give the information to them. If you think about it and care so much, get out of your head and open a book. Or hell, try google. It's a start.

Also, from this afternoon....

[Entering office to retrieve book]
DYA: How was your nap?
Me: Excellent!
DYA: I didn't know a nap could be excellent.
Me: Really? You should take one of mine.

THAT WAS TOTALLY THE SONG I WAS THINKING. So are you still doing my parents' wedding on the 8/4? WE need to talk money and such.

I just put the date in my calender!!!

And yes, let's negotiate like the price is right. I'm thinking instead of flying, I would rent a car and drive out there, just cause I like road trips and I can bring lots of random records and not worry about the weight of my luggage. But I'd still want to rent the actual equipment locally, rather than haul the big stuff to the eastern time zone.
