In honor of France's head-butt seen round the world, this morning with my coffee, I ate brioche smeared with nutella. The breakfast of almost-champions.

ETA: I swear I'm typing dictation from a lawyer who's drunk. Or using the dictaphone underwater. The former seems more likely since being underwater wouldn't explain why he's closing parentheses that he never opened.

Haha. You know, one saturday I turned on the TV and Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel was on and he had a report about facism and football in europe. It was fascinating.

My friend did his dissertation on this (aka, a master's degree in soccer)--even the pop books on the subject are fascinating to me. Among the thugs and whatnot. Sport, nationalism, racialism. You saw all the stuff about this most recent cup, about black players and fans not being welcome in certain German towns?

It's not even just certain German towns. I've been shocked by how huge stadiums of fans in Spain, Italy, etc., will just start chanting "monkey, monkey," at the black players. It's one of the few times I feel grateful for the U.S.'s take on race/ethnicity. I haven't been to too many professional sports games, but I've never heard a massive stadium chant like that.

i heard (on univision) that he said his little sister was a whore, but elsewhere commentators have said it way probably a racial slur.
