Why didn't someone tell me??!?

I mean, okay, people have mentioned it in passing, have vouched for its effectiveness, have claimed to use one on occasion. But c'mon now, no one told me HOW great it would be. Is it because of pictures like this?

(Which, I must confess, my 12-year-old-boy-self cracks up at all these pictures of nice white ladies on the boxes and websites, though I suspect they actually are holding an empty pot and the stream of water was digitally added.)

But let's stop being ashamed or grossed out. Besides, the nose enema might save my life. I've been using plain store-brand saline nasal sprays for years, when having cold/flu/sinus and I haven't gotten sinus or ear or throat infections because of it. But the neti pot is a whole other experience. I swear, I felt high afterwards. And completely symptom free. Now that a little time has elapsed, it's creeping back a little. But only a little.

I've been changed.

I've never used an actual neti pot...whenever I'd get sick I'd do the same thing using a coffee cup.

And it is awesome!

during allergy attacks, i've also been known to just snort a handful of water as well to help clean it out. but this little device makes it so much easier.

now i'm curious to see you do it with a coffee cup. i'm going to start a photo project where i document every friend of mine engaging in "nasal irrigation".

I just saw your earlier post and was about to start in with some neti pot propaganda, but it seems you've already been converted. Congratulations and amen!

(I'm Amanda, btw. We met at dinner at Semiramis last week.)

Dear hubby uses one of these bad boys every night.

I do not.

Guess who's always getting sore throats and sinus infections? No, really! Guess again!

hey, I'm a convert of only a few months and I love it. It also helps allergy eyes as well. Sometimes if you're really congested, you can do it twice to irrigate better.

with all the dust we're kicking up here while we're packing, it's been a life saver.

most health stores of the new agey variety. i had to get it at whole foods because the small store i went to had closed down. also, online, just google "neti pot". they run between $12-$22.

I own a namebrand Netti Pot but hippies here make dozens of other brands. I have tried to do it in front of the bathroom mirror so I can see the water run outta my nose like in the pic above, but somehow always have netti constipation when I try to look.

hey, i was secretly neti-ing the whole time we lived together in evanston. saved me from sinus surgery! i like using the actual neti pot (though for awhile i was heating the damn thing in the microwave and the pot i'd bought at whole foods wasn't micro safe. eventually it just crumbled! and i bought a new one).

but my allergist told me, correctly, that a sports water bottle with a spout works fine and saves money. you just have to be careful not to squeeze the bottle much when your nose is blocked because the pressure can be too much. but yeah, netifolk unite!

"Why didn't someone tell me??!?"

To quote my coworker Miss I, "you can't tell grown people anything."
