Last night I busted ass right up until 8:51 pm and when I left I was so tired that my brain hurt, but I went to Davenport's for a drink anyway because it was DYA's brother's last night in town, plus I had been threatening to see my BFF perform there for months. I survived the night powered by two manhattans and the joy of ubergay piano cabaret lounge music. My BFF has a great voice that was perfect for it (she was singing while some guest pianist from Gentry played all of my favorite "standards" like One for My Baby, Cry Me a River, The Nearness of You, etc.), and later in the evening I got to hear her play piano and sing some of her own stuff, which included her covers of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", Patsy Cline's "She's Got You", original songs, and two Indigo Girls songs. I love her. And want to go there every Wednesday night.

Today I have the house to myself for the first time in days, so its really hard to motivate myself for another trip downtown to get these copies done and sent out. See also, still overtired and a sinus headache.

This week there have been several news stories (it's so sad that I almost put news in quotes) about Keith Ellison, the newly elected Representative from Minnesota who is also, yes, the first Muslim elected to Congress, and I'm thinking about how no matter what he does, for the rest of his life, he will always be known almost exclusively as "the first Muslim elected to Congress". And it reminded me of a conversation I had with [livejournal.com profile] unscrambled about media titles, and how I said, no matter what I end up doing in this life, that I could win the Nobel Prize for Peace and Literature in the same year, but when I appear on CNN or Oprah, underneath my name will be the title "Transsexual."

What will be your permanent marker in the media?

Obviously, "former child prostitute" or "former sexually exploited child" (that's supposedly the better one. feels good, doesn't it?) or "former dope fiend"

Did you see the CNN clip where the CNN jackass asks him about "I just need to know if you're working with our enemies"--it's astounding.

here we go:

I had read about it, but hadn't seen the clip. Hearing his tone is even more astounding. And it really cracks me up when he says, "well, it's not surprising that Minnesota would vote for a Democrat...."

yes. Also, see the post I linked to recently about political correctness, and about how it's really about how tough it is for white men to, you know, respect people.
