Listen girl, you shouldn't feel so alone

I had been thinking of it anyway, but after both DYA's brother and MFA Husband mentioned doing it, I decided to keep writing mini-annotations of books I'm reading. Not even just books, but everything I read that's of some significance (i.e. no Entertainment Weekly articles). Rather than just starting from right now forward, I went back and tried to list all the ones from 2006. It started off rather sad, as I could only think of about 6. I knew it was a light reading year, but it wasn't THAT light. Last night at work I skimmed through my journal entries for the year to look for additional clues. A lot of books I thought I read last year were actually ones I read in the spring or late winter. I'm currently up to 21 titles, and that seems more reasonably accurate, especially since I'm not counting inidividual short stories or poems or essays -- only entire books, whether it's a novel or a collection of stories or essays. Sieving through a year of blog entries was only partially traumatic (and self-indulgent).

Well, damn, after writing this entry I was going to cut my hair and shower and dress and go to the grocery store, maybe the thrift store, and the library, but it just got really dark and started pouring, complete with thunder and lightning. Sophie doesn't like that, she just came into the office and curled up on the floor, which can't be more comfortable than the couches she was just on. Perhaps I'll stay in the house.

sleepingjpb's other blog is a shining example of this kind of thing:

http://www.imaginaryyear.com/raccoon/

he also complies a list of all of the books he's read, as well as a complicated index card/database based system for organizing things he wants to look at, quotes he wants to remember, etc. It's a part of his writing process.

Big surprise that I had you meet him.
