"Steel cut oatmeal" sounds vaguely sexy to me. I have no idea if it was taste as such, but I'm making it now. Along with a cup of yerba mate which is my new favorite.

Last night I slept both on and under a featherbed (I bought two). I slept well and had sexy dreams in the morning, so I mark it a success. Though I still need some new pillows. I will continue my campaign to max out my free shipping.

Yesterday I used steel-cut oatmeal as an example of a Luddite breakfast.

I love the sound of "steel-cut oatmeal", but every time I've had it it's been good and everything but not mind-blowing the way I want it to be. I think that is because it is still oatmeal.

Agreed. I keep wanting to like oatmeal, and it keeps sucking. Except in cookies. Gimme grits.

Seconded. I keep giving oatmeal a shot because of the health benefits, but I realize that the sheer amount of crap I'd have to put in it to make it taste okay would counteract any healthy effects.

I am going to try honey and cinnamon next time - I think honey would taste good and it's not so bad for you. I had awesome steel-cut oatmeal with vanilla cream and banana slices at a restaurant, but the vanilla cream was blatant in counteracting the healthy effects AND THEN SOME.

I keep thinking maybe I'll like it savory--I think sweet breakfast is yicchy. More experiments are needed. Maybe I need to go ultra austere--butter and salt. Then I can pretend it's grits. Maybe.

roasted garlic and mushrooms/spinach or something... Time to experiment! (Full lab report to follow.)

Oatmeal with heavy cream and bananas at Medici is mind-blowing, imo.

Of course, I can't drink cream, so there goes that, but I do find that cooking it in soymilk rather than water makes it tons better.

I love oatmeal.

Yeah, get the pinhead kind and try not adding so much water, if it gets mushy it isn't so good but if they keep their bite they are.

I just bought steel cut oatmeal for the first time. I put dried cranberries in it.

you definitely have to doctor it up. i like to throw in some frozen blueberries at the end of cooking time, then top it off with some vanilla yogurt.

but there is, undoubtedly, something inherently sexy about "steel cut" anything.

Steel cut oats are awesome and they need no doctoring and they are way better than Quaker oats.
If you get them in pinhead Scottish form they are even better. And that sounds like a funny sentence that I hope to use again in another context.
