I've spent lots of time this morning looking online at pictures of mountain cabins, beachhouses, and fancy urban hotels, researching three potential events -- an anniversary weekend, a writer's retreat with Cali people, and my 30th birthday. If I had a birthday party near Pigeon Forge, would you come? I've reached no conclusions, other than that I love looking at pictures of places I would potentially stay in and fantasizing about all the things that would happen while there.
It's snowing which makes it a quieter Sunday than usual and I ate a lunch that was supposed to be warm and cozy and nourishing, but really it just tasted like the gruel I imagined as a child when I read stories taking place in castle prisons or about industrial age europe. I suppose there is excitement going on in other parts of the city, given that today is a big sports game day for Chicago, but it has not permeated this corner of my world.

Date: 2007-01-22 12:56 am (UTC)i spent one new years eve close to there. we bought REAL massive fire works b/c they're legal there. scary too. people took turns setting them off on the side of the house into the woods and the valley below. we could see other houses through the trees but they weren't very close by. we were not the only ones lighting off fireworks. drinking and fireworks don't mix so well and we eventually had a fire on the side of the house. this guy ran down the stairs with a cooler full of ice, muttering 'fire fire' and we all thought he was joking. but we turned around to look around the corner to see the grass on fire. hilarious, scary and a small reproachment for our stupidity. some continued to light them off, but it made me nervous. it was midnight shortly after, and as i walked into the house, i told someone that i needed some 'fresh air' and went directly to the bedroom at the top of the stairs. i passed out by 12:30 on someone else's bed. all of this is captured on some cute girl's video, who danced like pele when she didn't have the camera in hand. it was a great party.
