jefftown76 posted a really intense, personal news article that I can't stop thinking about after reading last night. If only every person who ever earnestly said the phrase "support our troops" could read it. But beyond the politics of war and the true cost of it in terms of systematic health care that works, there's the whole other issue of trauma and 'personality disorders' and mental health that, while not surprising per se, is still alarming to me.

I'm ok with being alarmed, I guess, because that means I can still get shaken out of my numbness. I can't live in the constant state of outrage over all the things in the news I pay attention to, but if I take too long of a break of tuning out, of essentially a state of denial, that's bad for me too. Either way, it's always there. Sometimes I need to look at it, sometimes I need to look at something else. Just like the hard stuff, on a personal level. It makes sense that hard stuff on a community level, a cultural level, a global level, I negotiate in a similar fashion to keep myself together.

Which means, maybe I won't be watching the movie Sherrybaby today. And also I can keep looking at this great new cover from Out magazine about The Famous Closet Gays (or The Closet Famous Gays, whichever you prefer). They officially outed those bitches (god bless 'em). It makes me so happy.

i don't know... i'm a little bit over rich, famous, closeted gay(?) people stories. i really don't think that the queer movement needs more rich white people in it. it would be cool if we could start talking about isht that matters to the world, rather than celebrity gossip.

i can talk about "isht that matters to the world" too. it's not mutually exclusive. i think there's a reason people pursue the fluffy gossip related to celebrities and belittling people for doing it is not productive for anyone. when has snobbery ever changed people's hearts and minds?
