I saw Grindhouse this afternoon. It was worth every single penny, not only of the $6.25 for the matinee ticket, but also the other $8 for soda and popcorn. That was some highly entertaining isht. And not really a movie experience I could recommend to everyone, except for maybe people who are already intrigued by it but just not sure about making the effort. I recommend watching the 'intermission' trailers, and then running to the bathroom during the opening credits for the second movie. I don't think I missed much when I did that, plus the trailers are pretty hilarious/fascinating/upsetting.

The movies are not without their problems - Rodriguez's feels more complete as a film, but was way campier (this was both a plus and a minus). Tarantino's suffered from the same problem he has as a person -- too much talking. Plus, you know, some of the depictions - these are exploitation movies, after all (not in-the-style of exploitation). Like Miss Rook pointed out, at least it wasn't like the Russ Meyer movies where the women ultimately got killed. But Tarantino is not exactly feminist -- he like his women to be bad-asses who survive (and thrive) because it gives him a hard-on. Which, um, you know, it is hot. As fluff and homage and fun and white-knuckle gripping the theatre seats and severed legs and satisfaction and a Saturday afternoon at the movies with friends, I'll take it. Hell, I'd be tempted to even go again. Especially if it was with [livejournal.com profile] thebrownhornet.

I'm majorly dissapointed that I missed the hugely short run of 'hills have eyes 2'

EXCELLENT. we're going to hit the 5 o'clock at the Vista, i think. thanks for the pre-review and especially (of course) the advance scouting for bathroom breaks.
