I keep thinking about making an entry except I'm really just still obsessed with this book I'm reading. I swear, I'm so tempted to re-type passages here. Except there's too many. Today I actually considered writing/highlighting IN the book. I never do that, ever, but I suspect I will want or need to re-read this book again and finding certain spots might be helpful.

Or I could discuss therapy yesterday, and I don't really want to write about that here. I mean, I'd probably go on about it in person if you bought me a drink, but that's different.

Or I could discuss the fact that I've gone running five times in the last nine days, plus long walks on the weekend when we had perfectly temperate summy weather. I mean, I'm happy about it and I notice a difference about my mood and I'm even taking lots of time to stretch more before and after, which I'm usually only very cursory about. But that's kinda boring.

I have not gone to any recent all-you-can-eat buffets or other food adventures. I have not had a date/sex with anyone I've met online. I have not had any anecdotal encounters with a stranger in a store. I have not been watching Oprah. I have not had a random co-worker say anything bizarre or a offensive. I am not planning or returning from a trip to California. I have not bought or drank any good wine in awhile.

I'm at a loss.

I have been using book darts to mark my place in books for a couple of years and I love them!
They are great because you can mark specific spots on the page without highlighting or dog-earing. Also they come in a handy little tin for travel. They carry them local to you at Newberry Books on Walton (there is a store locator on the website).

its funny, because at first i'm like, oh, i'd never use those. but then thinking about it, i realized, wait, this would be super handy. and then reading the testimonials, it seems like many people say that, then get addicted.

you can save your place in the text and not mark up your books. It's like having your cake and eating it too!

I write in books I read all the time, as long as they're mine to write in. Like to look back later and see what was so special or bad.

it just feels wrong to me, the idea of writing in a book. like, makes-my-cells-screech wrong.

As a poet reading other poets' poetry, it's important for me to emphasize really good work I might attempt to emulate (or at least assimilate), or notate things that bug me or that I would never want to do. Books aren't sacred tomes or untouchable objects; that's the point of a codex. You can feel it, touch it. In the extreme, books are ignored or destroyed. Which is worse, though, is anyone's guess. I think of writing in them as poking fun at someone you're fond of; it shows you care about them. If you didn't care, you wouldn't even bother.

And that is your prerogative! I certainly don't think that NO ONE should write in books.

Just not me. ;)

I wonder what psychologists would say about our individual positions on this and what it says about our personalities. Would make for an interesting research project!

Ha, I didn't want to repeat myself, but I forget that in LJ-land, entries from last week are really light years.

I'm reading Healing through the Dark Emotions by Miriam Greenspan.
