On Saturday night I went to karaoke with a friend who I've been trying to go to karaoke with for ages. I had mentioned it to [livejournal.com profile] vfc who had said she'd probably pass, but on Saturday afternoon, I had a couple urges to call and attempt to convince her to come. But I didn't do it, because I didn't want to be held responsible if it was a crowded night and we didn't get to sing. Well kids, you should always follow that gut instinct, because Saturday night was amazing and I wish she (and others) had been there. The only people singing were me, J, Ronnie the KJ, a bartender, and one other patron. There was, however, an entire birthday part of approximately 20 people waiting to surprise someone. But they were all acting as if they weren't in a karaoke bar, i.e. no one was singing, no one was paying attention to people singing, no one was clapping. It was kind of bizarre. And for an entire hour, maybe more, I was actually convinced that they had rented out the bar for the party and we were unintentionally crashing it, because the barstaff recognized me as a 'regular'. 1 By 10:30, finally other people came in and started singing. But at 11:15, we left. This is what I got accomplished in 2 1/2 hours:

"Magic" -- America
"Last Dance with Mary Jane" -- Tom Petty
"I Believe in a Thing Called Love" -- The Darkness2
"Almost Home" -- Mary Chapin Carpenter
"Everything She Wants" -- Wham
"I Want It That Way" -- Backstreet Boys3
"Neutron Dance" -- The Pointer Sisters (duet w/ J)
"SUBG" -- Kelly Clarkson

....and an order of mini-beef tacos.

I was home and in pajamas by midnight. I think the duet was my favorite song of the night.

Other highlights of my weekend included: bbq and watermelon and [livejournal.com profile] drinkasyoupour; italian ices, walking on the boulevard, playing Trauma Center and [livejournal.com profile] unscrambled; burgers, patio, top shelf whiskey and [livejournal.com profile] keetbabe.

1: Twice this weekend, I went to places where multiple people said "Where have you been? Its been a long time. Good to see you!" The first was Sidekicks, by the kj and the waitress. The second place was temple. Obviously, I haven't been visiting my sanghas enough. Also, Ronnie said to come on a Monday, because its always dead then.

2: I did not pick this song. I was too slow in putting a song in, and since the rotation was only 4 people, Ronnie picked this song for me. I wasn't sure I knew it well enough, but I think I did ok. As anyone who's seen me sings knows, I love the falsetto songs.

3:[livejournal.com profile] anjibobanji, this is when I called you. Also, you leave great voicemails.

I wanted to come so bad and thought about it several times during the day, but I had absolutely no money.

Oh those are the best nights!

I wish Leroy had not answered the phone, I would have loved that! I'm surprised he didn't recognize the song, you know I think it is a masterpiece, I guess it is back to square one for Leroy.

Well you are easy to talk to!
