Across The Universe

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,
Possessing and caressing me.
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world.

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
That call me on and on across the universe,
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world.

Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a
million suns, it calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Jai guru de va, jai guru de va
jai guru de va, jai guru de va
jai guru de va.

Jai guru de va, jai guru de va.

I agree about preferring the Lennon version. I stumbled upon the Fiona version recently because it's on some random mix CD that Melanie has. And I started remembering my good friend Lauren playing it all the time when we used to work at Borders awhile back. In general, I pretty much hate Fiona Apple. Strong words, I know. It's not personal against her -- just against her persona. I probably would even like her music if I gave it a chance, but she bothers me so much as a personality, I can't even handle it. Funny how random people will elicit such strong reactions!

But speaking of odd concert people, you should check out Cat Power in concert. She's a bizarre performer that I like but she does weird isht like lay down on the ground in the middle of a song, and then stop and start over like 5 times. But for some reason it just cracks me up. Her CDs are awesome though.

random fact, the song is on the Pleasantville soundtrack ... probably where your friend got it before the mix tape was born.

you love cat power too!?!?!

oh my god.

she is a freakshow.

i saw her in concert once, and throughout the whole thing, she never even finished a song!!! she would start playing, and then trail off into some weird story about how she was convinced that we all hated her or how michael douglas was going to fall through the skylight (no, really.)

but, i did get her autograph on her poster, to which she signed "TARA IS A FERRAH 4-EVAH."

mmhmmm...

so yea, cat power is a freak, but i love her music so so so much.

also, thanks for the sweet little lj comment. i've been finding it a little hard to concentrate in class or when trying to write papers about richard III. lol.

I saw her live and she would never officially finish songs -- she would get to the end then move into a new one and no one would be able to tell. so she'd play this 20 minute song that was a ridiculously weird medley.

we listened to Moon Pix during the California drive down Highway One and it was PERFECT. I especially was moved at one point during the songs "Colors and the Kids".

moon pix is DEFINITELY my favorite cat power album...my favorite is "metal heart." i can just put that song on repeat and be happy. i also adore her nina simone cover of "wild is the wind" on her covers album. it totally moves me.

so i have some really awesome shots of chan from the show because she played this small art venue, and i was literally less than two feet away from her -- there wasn't even a stage, just a microphone and her. so anyway, if you are interested, i could make you copies of the pictures...the other thing is that she had grown her bangs so that they covered almost her entire face. i didn't see her eyes even once during the whole show!

anyway, enough about chan...she is a freak and i love her. :)
