Its blue skies, sunny, and 19 degrees here on this Chicago morning. So I put on my new sportswear thermal shirt, my orange head band, grey hoodie tied up tight, and my aviators; then, like a gay Rocky, I went out for a run. I haven't done any vigorous physical activity since hurting my back, or rather the first week of a hurt back when I was riding my bike anyway. I ran the whole time though, just over two miles in about 24 minutes, so not too bad. This was also an experiment on whether I have adequate clothing for winter running (I do), whether I still have a touch of cold weather asthma (so far, so good - no problems), and if I enjoy running in the cold more than the heat (definitely). When it was hot as hell and I'd get tired, slowing down to walk felt good. When its cold, I don't want to slow down because then I'll get colder. Its a good nudger.

My route was mostly about chasing sunshine, which also made a difference on the comfort levels. Of course now that I'm all proud of myself, I want to lie down on the couch and take a nap. However, I won't be following my initial plans for the day, which is watching the second half of Lars von Trier "Dogville". I'll save that for a day when I'm already feeling despondent -- no reason to induce that isht. Instead I'll do some writing. And clean up the mess of dishes from my failure attempt at a cake.

All this after I rest.

Good for you for running.
I don't run. (Insert that "unless something's chasing me" lame joke.)

Does Sophie run with you?
Would you like MINE to?

not regularly, she's a bit spastic. (as i'm sure you know NOTHING about having a spastic dog). i like to do long walks with her though and she is getting better about heeling while jogging.

Much better than an owner of a broken heart

I just want to thank you for quoting a Yes song and getting it in my head this morning.

You know you've been living in a metric country too long when you see 19 degrees and think 'Damn! Why are they having such nice weather?'

Good for you, getting back into running. I've set myself a small, reasonable goal of going back to the gym on Sunday.

Do you like "Dogville" so far? I tend to love and hate Lars von Trier stuff in equal measure.

Speaking of movies, I didn't realize Todd Haynes directed that new Bob Dylan movie, so now I definitely have to see it.

I watched the first half over thanksgiving break and fell asleep in the middle (because of allergy medication and lateness of hour, not the movie). So far I'm surprised at how charmed I am by it, even the production of it and its sort of "rehearsal staging" quality of it. I'm expecting it to get ugly though, as we all know how Mr. von Trier works.

I didn't know Todd Haynes did that movie either! And I already wanted to see it! Maybe we could make that matinee happen and see it together sometime next week?

Yeah! I've changed my work schedule around so that a weekday probably wouldn't be feasible, but a Sunday matinee would work. Or maybe we could do lunch on a Monday or something (I work 2 to 6 on Mondays...so, might be able to do a matinee then, but might be cutting it close).

I haven't ever managed to be in the mood for "dogville," though I do abstractly want to see it. I'll content that "The Idiots" is one of the best critiques of hipsterism that I can think of.

It would have languished on my netflix queue for years, I imagine, had I not been left on my friend's couch for the night, in front of their giant flat screen tv with cable, while they went to a basketball game.
