Today is Leap Day. I first moved to Chicago in a Leap Year, and my freshman year of college I invented the tradition that on Leap Day, you should do something you've never done before. It could be big or small (though big is ideal), but the point is to notice and acknowledge it.

Today is Leap Day and I'm making boiled peanuts.

My mom used to make boiled peanuts all the time. I love how they turn purple.

I always think of Pirates of Penzance on leap days.

I am trying to think of something to do after work that I've never
done before.

i like this idea b/c it puts a positive spin on it.

a family tragedy happened 3 leap years ago on this day that usually makes this a sad day for me.

You've done that before.

But funny you should mention it, as I was just about to....stir it up!

Thanks for the mix, whoadie.

Ha! I hope you enjoy the "beach" mix. I was trying to think of a soundtrack that didn't include any Sound Machines.

And Copacabana is my new favorite song. I'll do that dance today.

Maybe while doing it you can dance like the Neutron Man...this crazy old guy at all of the Ohio State football games since the 70s. Every time, during the 3rd quarter when the marching band played the Neutron Dance, he'd get up and dance all crazy. All 107,000+ eyes would turn to him.

Or? Don't dance like him. That might be a good idea too.

I read this and said, "That's it - I'm going to eat White Castle."

Then again - maybe I'll find something else to do. That's just dangerous.

maybe because you haven't been in chicago for any leap days? i didn't know you yet in '96, and by '00 you were in NY. i think its more of a small tradition, like eating black-eyed peas on new year's day.
