Slept in some, had a great breakfast that B__'s mom made for us, then didn't hit the road until almost 11 am. Headed towards Monterey, and drove through Santa Cruz, where we unsuccessfully tried to hook up with Andrew. Went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and saw the otters at feeding time! Ate lunch on Cannary Row. Left the area around 3pm, and knew we would get to Santa Barbara late if we drove down Highway One (insted of 101), but decided I would always regret it if we didn't go. So we went, and I'm certainly glad – it was amazing. Melro drove, so I could hang out the window and gawk at the ocean and take blurry pictures with my camera when I stuck my arm out. Highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. Though the drive itself it sort of scary since it's very curvy and twisty and super high up. On part of the drive we listened to Cat Power's Moon Pix and there was a line in a chorus saying "I could stay here, be someone different, I could stay here, become someone better" and I had some sort of epiphany. California as a whole sort of did that to me. I feel so cliche. Oh well.
We got to Santa Barbara safe and sound – ordered pizza and hung out with Beth and Steve. It felt like they never left.

argh! i am SO sorry. I was in Moss Landing with my Dad at the junkyard... By the time I got the message I knew you guys would have been long gone down through Big Sur where the cellphone wouldn't work.. so I didn't call. I'm so sorry! I'm gonna have to come to Chicago sometime soon... I'm glad you had fun here though!

Baby, tell me more. Remind me. I've got this newfound loyalty that makes me feel like a little bit of a traitor for wanting what I've wanted this whole time. But you're right. I love California. I love my west, and it's waiting for me.

And you? When do I see you? I mean, when that day?
