This morning was very california dreaming -- all the leaves are brown, the sky was grey, I was planning to take the dog for a walk on a day still technically winter, both by the calender and by the temperature. First I ate breakfast, did some freelance work, took a bath. Now the cat is lounging on the kitchen table in a sunbeam telling me: things can change.

My fever broke yesterday morning, but a very painful cough came with it, so for the first time in years, I took cough syrup. I also misread the directions, taking two tablespoons instead of two teaspoons, and was feeling kinda loopy. Even more so than the days prior with the fever (and believe me, I was loopy). I realized I was sort of minorly, accidentally, tripping on DXM. Here I thought the whole sippin on sizzurp phenomenon was referring only to codeine-based products! I proceeded to watch Live Free or Die Hard in my slightly altered state, which I think was a good choice.

Today I am drug-free in all forms. Well, except for this ginseng green tea I'm drinking right now. Despite its energy claims, I want nothing but to take a nap. Tonight, its back to the office, though I really want to continue staying home and watching season three of Battlestar Gallactica with [livejournal.com profile] dommeyourass.

When I was a shoplifter-catcher (back in the fab early 1990s) I used to catch loads of middle and upper-middle class white and hispanic housewives who would steal Robotussin with the DXM (the red kind) for recreational use. I always wondered why they didn't just BUY the stuff, considering they had the $$$, but perhaps they were shy about buying a pint/day but WTF-ever, I guess at least they weren't ODing on over-the-counter ashma meds.

I did know I was fairly square about drugs, but didn't realize I was over 15 years late. Also I had no idea of your illustrious past in Loss Prevention (as the Borders Co. called it)!
