I'm not totally feeling the first half as much, because I don't totally agree about the 'founding principles' aspect of patriotism, or whether patriotism is even ultimately a positive thing, BUT, I dig the second part about us being humans and always trying to do better.

I rescheduled therapy for later so I could be home watching pre-Inauguration coverage and the Inauguration itself. I like participating in cultural moments along with hundred of millions of other people worldwide.

Charles Gibson has gotten so weird in his colloquialisms and 'observations'. And Diane Sawyer isn't drunk....yet. Maybe just tipsy. Of course, these are the reasons I'm watching.

I watched the inauguration with Chris. We were flipping channels and chitter-chattering. At one point we had on FOX News and this guy, about an hour after the inauguration, said something about "IS he legitimately the president now, though? I mean, technically this could go to the Supreme Court..." I was like "huh? What's he talking about?" Chris said the guy's comment was about Obama flubbing a line or two during the swearing in. I was like "whoa, are you fucking kidding me? That's pathetic."

Charles Gibson kept getting fixated on the most inane facts, like whether the limo was the presidential limo or the presidential-elect limo and which side the seal was on and who sat where. Which, I expect all that random blather to be happening during long coverage, but he kept interrupting people to fixate on it in these weird ways. He also would just say randomly offensive things, like "Cheney is such a proud man, I'm sure he hates having to leave in a wheelchair". Wow, thanks for insulting everyone who has to use a chair.
