I'm sad about Natasha Richardson. I liked her as an actress, I've always had a soft spot for those traditional brit styles of drama and theater, plus she was married to Liam Neeson for a dozen years and that is enviable to me. I mean, lessons about the fragility of life are all around, at all times, and this is the one that's getting me today. Human bodies can sustain amazing amounts of trauma and damage and survive, but in the other direction, it can be a minor bump that starts a chain reaction of shutdown. It's unnerving of a story, whether she was famous or not, I guess.

It truly is unnerving. She was taking a beginner's lesson on a bunny slope, for goodness sake. I have taken more falls on intermediate slopes than I can count, and one epic upside-down crash on a black diamond...plus all the other non-skiing accidents, traumas and injuries. Yet here I sit, to fall another day. Crazy.

She was lovely. Even her short appearance on Top Chef, she was so sexy and beautiful and a real person who was also an actress, not a celebrity. I feel sad for her family tonight.

It's really sad. Her sons are the same age my sisters were when my stepmom died. How awful for them. Those years are hard and fragile and I can't imagine going through such a profound loss on top of it all.
