And now for something completely different...

I really really really really really really really want my security deposit back. The law says it must be returned in full within 45 days. HOWEVER. If anything is to be taken out of the security deposit, I must be notified within 30 days. It's been more than 30 days. So NOTHING should be taken out. Supposedly. Though at this point, if less than 100 bucks is taken, it's not worth challenging it.

I'm just nervous because I got screwed royally last year. And my last management is NOT anything like the weird woman in Evanston. So I shouldn't be so worried. But I really really really want and need my money.

Today I pulled out my NYC t-shirt, which I previously had been avoiding since I feared there might be a skyline photo on it that included the twin towers. Remarkably, it doesn't. Well, it's not very distinctive, if they are on it. It's mostly the Statue, Empire, and Brooklyn Bridge. Then again, I think the t-shirt if based on historical tourist pics, from before the towers were built.

For some reason, watching the reruns of ST:TNG are exactly what I've needed this week. Last night I was trying to explain to MelRo why it was my favorite show, and I never was really able to get into the other ones as much. TNG was so clean and simple, as far as it's design, it's structure, and it's storytelling. The complexities came in the plot devices and what it brought out of the characters. But even the characters were pretty straightforward. There was always a hint of complexities beneath the surface, but they came out subtley. Which is probably why fanfic is so prevalent and interesting. TNG is great minimalism. In the true sense. Just enough to produce a feeling, a thought, a conclusion, but with enough room for your own imagination. Sure there's some simplistic corny dialogue, and there's always a neat happy ending. But I watch(ed) it for what happens in-between. I never remembered the endings. This was true of X-Files as well, now that I think about it. I had to watch an episode about 3 times before I was able to remember the entire plot from beginning to end. But I didn't necessarily watch it the plots, which were surprisingly mediocre, looking back. I watched it for the mood, the feelings, and the character dynamics.

So anyway, yeah. 5 day marathon makes me happy. Makes me want to pull out my dusty VHS tape from the back of the cabinet which contains one or two favorite episodes I taped many many years ago. Usually the melodramatic ones were my favorite -- especially the ones that focused on the female characters. But this week my favorite episodes have been the time/memory ones. Caught in a never-ending loop. Or all memory erased. Or trapped in your own memories. Or waking up in an unfamiliar time.

"This is your life. And it's ending one minute at a time."

The ones with Q, when Deanna and Riker were breaking up, anything involving a holodeck malfunctioning, and the doctor+captain=love ones. I also used to have a crush on wesley....ooh...the Borg! ::cough:: aight...sorry...

oooh -- holodeck malfucntioning eps. good call.

the doctor+captain ones were always a mixed deal for me, because I loved the doctor so much, she deserved better. or at least deserved a Picard who paid attention.

ummm. yeah. i'm going to climb back into my nerdhole now. :)

well, that's just the rules for the state of Illinois. the state of Iowa might be different -- thought it's probably similar. just use the google search engine and type in "Iowa tenants rights" and something good should pop up. that's how I found Illinois. :)
