Too bad no bon appetit!!!
Oct. 8th, 2001 10:13 amHAPPY BIRTHDAY Joe aka Joseph Grace aka Bruce Banner aka LudaJoe aka Sexxxy Boi! Hope you have a great day, you silly Libra.
So the office is empty today, though not out of celebration of Colonization Day. Everyone is just sick. Or on their way out. This one guy who's leaving his position has been using up all his sick days and personal days, methinks, which is extra odd considering he only gave 3 weeks notice anyway (and he's a manager). Can we say forced out?
Anyway....
Friday night I laid low like Snoop. I made homemade macaroni and cheese, and MelRo and I basially just hung out, watched some TV, and then I gave her a tarot reading. In the middle of it, Tara and Myles called from church, I mean, the Bj--k concert, and I talked to them for a hot minute. Then Tara called back and I heard Isobel, Venus as a Boy, then it started to cut in and out (I think it was a song from Vespertine?). But then she called back during Possibly Maybe (!!!) and I heard most of that. Then I got cut off again. A few minutes later the phone rang, and I picked it up, but didn't say hello because I was expecting it to be Tara again....but it was Mr. Ridley! I talked to him for awhile, and MelRo fell asleep on my lap, then I joined her soon after.
Saturday morning we went to the dry cleaners, I got a haircut, and we went for lunch at tasty Jimmy John's, which is usually a Sunday afternoon activity for us. Then we went downtown and met up with my buddy Dy___ at the Hyatt and volunteered for a couple hours helping set up for the ACLU benefit. For some reason I had a great time standing and pruning roses while trading clever remarks with Dy___, Melanie, and Ed___, (Dy___'s catty ex-boyfriend who cracks me up). We headed home, napped, ate dinner, and watched Bring It On finally since we had a free movie channel for the weekend. I had flashbacks to high school and having friends on cheerleading and drill teams (we weren't exactly East Compton, but we certainly weren't the San Diego high school either....). Anyway, then we headed to the infamous De___ party which was a lot of fun, and I had a fairly successful time being social (which I worried about). I got pleasantly drunk and pleasantly high (didn't overdo either one), and we got home around 3 am or so. Ryan slept on my futon with my grape sherbert sheets which I can distintcly remember picking out of the Sears catalog along with my rainbow striped bedspread. Someone should have told me.
Sunday: We drove Ryan home and kept running into touble because of the Chicago marathon and blocked streets. We finally made it to Hyde Park, dropped him off, went to campus, got a sandwich from University Market (mmmm--fresh mozzerella) and went to the co-op book sale where I bought lots of fun books but have no place to put them at home. That night we went to dinner at Melanie's cousin Sa___'s apartment, which was really nice and lowkey. Though I apparantly outed MelRo a little -- sorry about that. I'm such a bad influence.
So that was my exciting weekend. Actually it was really nice. And I'm also excited to have no current plans with my week, so I have lots of free time to get stuff done, including (and I mean it this time), creating a schedule/syllabus for my sound recording course. I have been doing reading in other areas -- researching equipment and learning some techiniques from the couple trade publications I have. I also am trying to learn a few new scratching tricks so maybe I can actually participate somewhat competitively in the battle of the DJ's event I'm spinning at. Is it bad that I have low expectations since it's a mostly lesbian event? Maybe because I haven't met many queer female DJs in the Chicago who had mad skills. I would love to be proven wrong at the event. But I'm still a bit wary.
That's all for now.
