So the book sale on Sunday took place in the courtyard of a shopping center that had Muzak piped in. Yes. Love it. One of the songs was a muzak version of All Cried Out by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. I was jamming while book shopping. Then this morning while I was struggling to open my eyes and MelRo was lovingly pestering me awake, I started singing "And you, don't you know my tears will burn the pillow Set this place on fire 'cause I'm tired of your lies All I needed was a simple 'Hello' But the traffic was so noisy that you could not hear my cry". I crack myself up. So of course I had to spend half of my morning ritual going through my tapes and finding the song so I could help get it out of my head. It's on this great mixtape my buddy Br___ made for me that also contains such gems as "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton and "Just Once" by James Ingram. I love it so much. I told Melanie last night that I'm going to become a producer who's famous for taking 80's soft rock and easy listening songs and turning them into dope beats. Just you wait, 'enry 'iggins.

Last night I bought a really nice pair of headphones. I also ordered a textbook online -- "Modern Recording Techiniques". Which I almost bought last spring, but luckily didn't since a new edition came out this summer. I'm well on my way. NOw granted these aren't as fun as the true toys I'm lusting after -- the Akai MPC2000 and something from the Roland VS series. But I want to prove that I'm committed, and throwing down 30 bucks for a book is better than signing up for a lease on stuff that worth several thousand dollars total. Hmm. Let's work on those credit cards first, shall we?

Somehow the idea of Muzak of Lisa Lisa frightens me. At least it wasn't "I Wonder If I Take You Home," I suppose.

muzak

last week while in the yuppyish grocery store near our apartment, I noticed they were playing a muzak version of Green Day. granted, it was the ballad number (Time of Your Life), but it still felt wrong...yet also somehow appropriate.
