raybear: (...and that's Miss Barbra Streisand)
Great Washington Post article on American Idol and getting the winner to sing the National Anthem HERE

Also revealed in the article is a pending American Idol DVD. Highlights galore, I'm sure.

I have a huge crush on the new attorney. I mean, I was starting to develop a crush on the previous new attorney (who's now the not-as-new attorney), but this one took no time at all. I don't get it -- she's so....not my typical type. And yet, is. She's so straight. And skinny. But she has fabulous clothing style and taste so at least she's working the fact that clothes drape on her the way they would on a hanger. Okay, she's not THAT skinny, but it's close. She has this Julia Roberts thing going -- not that you would mistake one for the other, but they sort of came from similar biological molds, if that makes sense.

And today. Today, she's wearing her hair down. And this fabulous belt that matches her fabulous shoes I noticed yesterday and nearly complimented her on. Oh my fagalicious.

I can't decide what exactly this feeling is, because my crush isn't explicitly sexual but it definitely has the giggly schoolyard feel to it. Only femmes can make me feels this way, I swear. I mean, I have crushes on non-femmes and boys and folks inbetween and love many different styles and flavors that feel good and fun and great, but there's a specific reaction I have to femmes. Even femme straight women, assuming they have some queer streak in them.

I'd say working as an attorney at my organization makes her just a tiny bit queer.

Confession.

So I've never really done karaoke before. I've sung in front of small groups at coffeeshops or talent shows and accompanied myself on guitars, I've sung karaoke in my room to others, and I even sung karaoke at a chinese restaurant at the going away dinner for a co-worker (in the small party room in the back). But I've never done straight up bar karaoke in front of strangers, and for some reason this makes me more nervous. Maybe also because all those things I've listed above happened several years ago, and nowadays when I'm in front of a large group of people, my mouth is shut and the records speak for me.

But I'm excited. I'm sure after one or two drinks, and witnessing one or two others, and then trying it one or two times I'll absolutely love it and they'll be pulling me off the stage.

Also, what am I going to wear?? I almost want to be dressed sort of conservative and nearly fratboyish. I already am sporting the khakis and the fake addidas tennis shoes. Maybe I'll change into a button down shirt and add a baseball cap. Then get up there and belt out Petula Clark and Lulu.

I'm a little concerned about my vocal range too -- I haven't been paying close enough attention when singing to know what I can handle and how low I can go. I've certainly lost octaves in my upper range.

I'm quite disappointed about Sidekicks missing some key songs. I really wanted Barry White's "Never Never Gonna Give You Up". I was looking forward to forcing MelRo into a duet of "Guilty" with me (since [livejournal.com profile] grocerygetter isn't here to do it), but alas, it's not available. They do have some good Dionne tunes and maybe we can do The Carpenters together instead.

Also, I had lunch with The New Attorney, which was quite pleasant, and took some of the edge off my morning compulsions. And she has a dog, so now I have someone to discuss dog stuff with at work. We may also schedule a play date at the dog park. How perfectly pleasant.
