I spent nearly an hour last night filling up my Amazon shopping cart then when I went to check out I was informed that my gift certificate can't be applied to used items (which was 90% of my cart, since I was trying to get the most of my money). Bastards.

So I decided on three things. Buffy Season Three DVD, The Sims for Playstation 2, and the DVD of "My Neighbor Totoro". This is not as exciting as the cart full of 16 items, but I'm getting two big ticket items that are new and exciting and will get much use out of me. I think I chose wisely.

Oh, and I registered for True Spirit last week. I guess I should put in for time off from work. Anyone in DC willing to let me sleep on their couch (or bed if I promise not to hog the covers)? I was leaning towards sharing a hotel room, but I'm not sure I have enough money for such a non-extravagance. I mean, if I'm going to share a room anyway....I'm still deciding, I guess. So to my DC people, expect an email inquiring about availability. Or let me know here if there are still open reservations or if you're already full and don't want further harassment.

This whole Pete Townsend debacle is creeping me out. But in more positive entertainment news, Richard Chamberlain is coming out. Oh, Dr. Kildare.

On the train this morning I noticed that whenever I'm reading or thinking about buddhism, I start viewing everything random around me in those terms. I'll be listening to some song on my walkman and thinking "she should dwell so much on the past and concentrate more on the present." I need a book on the buddhist's approach to art and music and pop culture. What would Buddha think of Joe Millionaire?

Top Ten Albums in 2002: (but not really in any order)
1. DJ Shadow – The Private Press
2. Scarface – The Fix
3. Blackalicious – Blazing Arrow
4. Jurassic 5 – Power in Numbers
5. Marianne Faithfull – Kissin Time
6. Missy Elliott – Under Construction
7. Beck – Sea Change

(Sure all the cool kids had this last year, but technically the album was re-released this year, so I’m counting it.)

Thirteen-way tie for number 10 (category formerly known as “Honorable Mentions”):
Eminem – The Eminem Show (So overwhelmingly loved and hated that it’s practically cliche either way. But the album IS good.)
Nas – God’s Son
The Donnas – Spend the Night
Buffy Musical – Once More With Feeling
Kylie Minogue – Fever
Beth Orton – Daybreaker
Best of Bowie – 2 CD (sure, none of this is NEW music, but damn does it sound good, especially in one collection)
Phantom Planet – The Guest
Andrew W.K. – I Get Wet
The Roots – Phrenology
J-Live – All of the Above
Me'Shell NdegeOcello - Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape
Dirty Vegas – Dirty Vegas
Princess Superstar - Is Princess Superstar

Soundtrack of the Year:
Y Tu Mama Tambien

It seems I’m the only music loving person in the world who doesn’t know the Wilco, Coldplay, or Flaming Lips albums. Maybe I’ll put them on next year’s list if I pick them up in the used bin.
