Here are my old glasses:

New glasses, which are extremely similar to my old glasses, except the arms are metal:

New glasses with ambervision goggles on top:

ambervision bugglasses that fit over my glasses
(they look better with my bike helmet on!)

New prescription sunglasses, just picked up an hour ago:

new prescription sunglasses

(I didn't realize until after I uploaded how purple the tint seems in this picture. They are actually more blue. Also hilarious to me is my unconscious ability to make the exact same lopsided half-grin at all times.)

Sadly, it is a cloudy day in Chicago. I of course drove home in them anyway, to help with "glare". I intentionally got the tint fairly light, since I'm used to not wearing sunglasses, my eyes will appreciate any darkening, but also when I'm going in and out of places, I won't be as blind indoors so I don't have to constantly switch out. Don't worry, this doesn't mean I'll be wearing my prescription sunglasses to work. Although, those fluorescent lights can be rather harsh....

DYA left this morning to visit her brother in California for the weekend. I have big plans involving marathon writing sessions, finishing [livejournal.com profile] thebrownhornet's manuscript, some seasonal household chores like taking out the a/c units, airing out down comforters, and repotting plants to bring indoors. But somewhere in there will also be a 30 Rock marathon.

I like 'em all, but whoa, the blue ones really are badass. Makes me think of that song "Magic Man."

your new glasses are super powerful. and i love how your making faces too. though i'm a tiny bit mad because i considered getting clear plastic frames, but didn't want to be a copycat. then you went and changed your look!!!! haha

powerful?? thank you. i almost didn't buy them because right after i tried them on, 12 teen age asian girls came into the shop and tried on those exact frames. and gemstelar was there and she was like are you suuure you want to get those after that?? so i waited. and a week later i went back and bought them. oh and that was at camden market. super cheap. well, as in cheap for london. not at a 'proper' eyeglass shop.

also, aw, cmon. i never owned the clear frame style!

I have very little time, as I am late for an appointment, but I wanted to say: foxy. Very foxy. In general, but helped by the glasses.

You should have put a warning on the cut about the bug glasses--I'm very sensitive! I heart the purple aviators a lot. They're really good. The new glasses are very nice. Yes, similar to the old ones, but if it ain't broke.

30 Rock marathon is tough stuff. I recommend alternating with Friday Night Lights. I know, I'm always on about this show, but I freaking love it. Even though it just jumped the shark, the first season was great.

I didn't peg you for a Friday Night Lights kind of person.

I looooooove that show. But, the first episode of hte new season jumped the shark, bigtime.

I love that show because how could the story (melodramatic, with extra-perceptive-adult-reflections of teenagers) of a town where what happens on a football field twelve times a year is the only hope that a boom and bust town in the bust end of things--well, that's good television.

Also, race, ability, class, gender issues. All there, and dealt with head on.

Also, I love football--but you don't have to to love the show!

Though, probably the first episode won't make you cry like it did for me.

I've always been intrigued by that show (because, well it involves teenagers and probably cheerleaders) but never watched it. Maybe it'll be my mid-season replacement.

Watch the first season. I can't vouch for the second, not after one of the things that happened in the first episode. BUT! I like the show so much I might continue to watch it because I like the characters that much.

yeah, i only got a new pair because the arm broke and i hadn't had an eye exam in three years -- i wasn't looking for any radical change. well, maybe a little touch of change, hence the sunglasses!

don't worry, i will try FNL. but that's not what i have at home right now. also, 30 Rock is less stressful when not sober. i can watch 3 episodes in a row! its also good since i don't really want to spend 13 hours of my weekend watching tv, which is always a risk.

thanks!! i've been wearing the new ones for weeks now and only one person has noticed. ;) but that's okay, i only got new ones because the arm broke on my other pair and i hadn't had a new prescription in 3 years, not because i was tired of the style.

You look like a pornographer from the 70s in the last one. I'm so jealous. My prescriptions are so bad I couldn't get the aviators I wanted.

From: [identity profile] saltjam.livejournal.com
I was about to say the same thing. That's excellent I think. About the 70's pornographer.

I've wanted prescription sunglasses my whole life but have never bothered to get them. I'm inspired.

I got some this summer and it was pricey because my glasses are so thick, but it was money well spent.

This is my first pair. I was inspired by my gf getting them. Actually, I was jealous, and that led to inspiration, so I guess jealousy can be good.

I'm on her insurance plan, because she's a county worker, and we get a discount on eyeglasses. And luckily the aviator frames are pretty cheap anyway. The total ended up being $105. Of course I'm nervous about spending so much money on sunglasses, since I tend to lose/break them, but I realized those things happen because I would take them off . I won't really be taking these off as much, since I would then be blind! Now I just need to make sure I'm in the habit of carrying my regular ones in a case in my bag.

Actually, you kind of look like the love child of General Zod and Santino who grew up to be a drug dealer. In the 70s.

I had to google General Zod. I mean, when I did, I recognized his face right away from the movie, but I didn't know his name off the top of my head. You hide your hardcore geekinees well.

I had a moment of thinking aviators might be bad because they are too trendy, but then I thought, you know, they never really go away completely. It just vacillates between a few people wearing them and lots of people wearing them.
