Today I learned that a potato masher and a hand mixer can't quite replicate a blender or a food processor. But! My made-up-on-the-fly Fennel Cream Soup is so delicious, I don't even mind that its a little chunky. I think it will be more delicious after sitting overnight and eating it chilled.

in this soup, most of the creaminess comes from mashed cauliflower....and some cream, so its still yummy, but not as heavy. i ate this cold fennel soup 10 years ago that i still remember and have been wanting to replicate. i think today, tastewise, i did.

All hand mixers smell like vibrators on the fritz to me.
That soup sounds awesome.

that's hilarious and so true, because when i was using the hand mixer, i had a moment of "what's that smell? is it going to start smoking and sparking?!?!"

Man. I've been doing really well on my diet. Eating fresh foods, taking in between 1,200 and 1,700 calories a day. Being disciplined in my eating AND keeping a food diary have been key.

The other day it was already 6pm and I had only eaten about 450 calories so I thought I'd get some dinner and get a little sort of reward for myself- something sinful but not crazy.

I stopped on my way home from work and got a McDonald's Cheeseburger. Yes, I know all the political implications, etc.
But I had a taste for it.

It made me think again of your entry several months ago about fast food. Since I hadn't had any food like this in weeks, I thought it would taste like ambrosia. On the contrary, it tasted like the greasiest, most artifical piece of garbage. It was almost gag inducing.

It's like I could feel my pores start to fill up with oil half-way through the sandwich. Yes, I finished it, maybe due to a sense of duty or a sensory automation habit. But damn it was pretty fucking nasty.

Can I use you as a "fantasy" crash pad, so I will actually move. This involves telling myself I can move because I have a place to crash once I arrive. It involves no actual crashing.

Though there is a 37 inch Plasma, which might need a real crash pad, while I hunt for places.

Certainly! We have an array of futons and couches that make for great naps, a somewhat tolerable night of sleep, and a horrible long stay, so even if you did need to crash, it would also motivate you to find someplace with a real bed.

I have been known to work on ice - or at least frozen strawberries with an immersion blender.

yeah, i actually don't even like frozen margaritas, i prefer them over ice, but having a blender makes me think i would want one!! the ice-crushing would come into play more with smoothies. which i'm assuming given your declaration of use on frozen strawberries, it would work ok?

Ya, I use mine in a pint glass or metal bowl to make fruit smoothies...and it works really well. I'll look up my model tonight (kitchen aide is my preferred maker of fancy things) to see if it claims it can crush ice.
